Get to Know Megan

Hello and welcome to my blog! Here you will find information about who I am and what I love to do.

My name is Megan Svara and I am a student at the University of Iowa. Go Hawks!! I am double majoring in Actuarial Science and Mathematics and double minoring in Statistics and Business Administration. I am in the process of taking the professional actuarial exams through the Society of Actuaries to eventually become a certified Actuary. However, I am currently taking a break on taking these exams to study abroad in Granada, Spain for the semester. I am absolutely loving it here!

In my free time I love to dance. Growing up, I was a part of a competitive dance company. I danced at Innovation Dance Company from when I was three years old until I graduated high school. At the studio, I learned various genres of dance such as tap, jazz, ballet, lyrical, modern, pointe, and hip hop. I really enjoyed dancing so I also joined my high school’s Poms team for four years. When I began college, I decided to join the University of Iowa’s Dance Club where I was able to continue dancing. I have always wanted to learn how to tango, so while studying at the University of Granada I have decided to take a tango class. I am loving it so far and can’t wait to continue learning more types of dance.

At the University of Iowa I am also involved in a sorority called Alpha Xi Delta where I am the Recruitment Data Director. I have enjoyed becoming very close to my sisters and definitely miss them this semester already! Two clubs that relate to my major, the Actuarial Science Club and Gamma Iota Sigma, are activities that I enjoy being involved with on campus. These clubs have helped me build my resume, network with professional actuaries, and obtain an internship for this upcoming summer. I am very excited to work at PricewaterhouseCoopers over the summer and learn about what actuaries do on a daily basis!

Outside of school, I love listening to music and spending time with my friends and family. My family and I love to travel and normally take a winter break trip to somewhere warm and tropical like Mexico, Punta Cana, the Bahamas, or Hawaii! I love spending time on the beach and I collect sea shells every time we go to the beach. My family also loves Disney World and we go just about every year! I play a lot of Euchre with my family as we have a lot of game nights at my house.

Overall, I am a very loving person and am always up for a new adventure. I am looking forward to my time in Granada and hope this helped you learn a little bit about me!
